《古文观止》为清代康熙年间吴楚材、吴调侯叔侄二人选编，入选之文体现了中国古代散文所取得的极高成就，一直盛行不衰。本书为国内外首部英译全本，收录《古文观止》全文，整体内容由古文、白话文、英文三部分构成，共四卷，为《大中华文库》丛书之一。此次由教育部哲学社会科学研究重大课题攻关项目首席专家徐华东主编译，并联合了国内外众多英文专家学者数载精心打磨。 Guwen guanzhi (Gems of Classical Chinese Prose) was compiled and edited by Wu Chucai and Wu Diaohou, uncle and nephew, during the Kangxi era of the Qing Dynasty. Assembled in this anthology are 222 pieces of classical Chinese prose by notable writers in chronological order from the pre-Qin times to the Ming Dynasty. Well known for their intellectual and artistic merits, these pieces, including some of rhythmical prose, cover canonical works of Confucianim, historical prose writings, biographies, letters and argumentations, as well as travel notes and fable stories. The anthology represents the highest achievement of classical Chinese prose, and has been popular among the Chinese people for its collected works, all moderate in length, which suit both refined and popular tastes. While working on their anthology, Wu Chucai and Wu Diaohou called their collection as bringing together "the finest pieces of classical Chinese prose". This Gems of Classical Chinese Prose, a bilingual complet edition in Chinese and English, highlights the historical development and characteristics of classical Chinese prose.
